Gentle hints (no full spoilers)

Open them in order — each one gives away a little more than the last.

Hint 1

Read everything first. The logbook in the study and the note in the lamp room tell you exactly what to do — the rest is finding the pieces.

Hint 2

The spare door key is hidden behind something the keeper looked at every day.

Hint 3

The toolbox code is a year. The keeper tore the rubbing of it in two and hid both halves in the study — you’ll need to tape them back together.

Hint 4

Not everything is a clue. The rug is a red herring — don’t waste time on it.

Hint 5

The lamp needs two things, in order: first fuel, then a flame.

Full step-by-step solution spoilers

  1. The Keeper’s Study Examine the logbook to learn the plan: the spare key is behind the painting, and the toolbox code is a year torn into two scraps.
  2. The Keeper’s Study Search the cluttered desk — the sticky drawer holds a torn scrap reading “18—”.
  3. The Keeper’s Study Search the bookshelf — a hollow book hides the other scrap, “—87”.
  4. The Keeper’s Study Open your bag and combine the two scraps. Taped together they read 1887 — that’s the toolbox code.
  5. The Keeper’s Study Look behind the painting to find the brass key. (Ignore the rug — it’s a red herring.)
  6. The Keeper’s Study Use the brass key on the door and climb the spiral stairs to the lamp room.
  7. The Lamp Room Examine the pinned note: fill the lamp with oil, then strike a light; supplies are in the locked toolbox.
  8. The Lamp Room Open the toolbox and enter the code 1887 to get the oil can and the matches.
  9. The Lamp Room Use the oil can on the great lamp to fuel it, then use the matches to light it. The lamp blazes — you escape.

Quick answers

What is the toolbox code in The Lighthouse Keeper?

The code is 1887 — the year on the plaque. You get it by taping the two torn scraps together: one is in the desk drawer, the other in a hollow book on the bookshelf.

Where is the brass key?

It’s hidden behind the seascape painting on the wall of the study. Click the painting to take it.

Is the rug important?

No. The rug is a deliberate red herring — there’s nothing hidden under it. Don’t waste time on it.

How do I light the great lamp?

Two steps, in order: use the oil can on the lamp first to fuel it, then use the matches to strike a flame.
